Few embody that mission better than Gabby, a young woman whose journey into shooting sports is both inspiring and deeply personal.
Gabby wasn’t always a shooter, but thanks to Kevin, a longtime Friends of NRA attendee and volunteer in Pennsylvania, she found her way into the sport. Kevin, who became a father-figure in her life after the passing of her own father, saw something special in Gabby and encouraged her to give shooting a try. According to Kevin, from the moment she picked up a firearm, she was a natural.
For Gabby, shooting opened the door to a new passion, but more importantly, it gave her a community of support. Living with Type 1 diabetes, a disease she was diagnosed with at just 18 months old, was something she once struggled with. But through shooting, she discovered confidence, purpose, and a way to give back.
Inspired by her journey, Gabby wanted to make a bigger impact by using her shooting skills to raise awareness and funds for Type 1 diabetes research. This led to the creation of Sidecar Joe, her initiative dedicated to making a difference through shooting sports.
Gabby’s story is a perfect example of how Friends of NRA empowers young shooters, builds lifelong connections, and fosters a strong future for the shooting sports community. Whether it’s providing mentorship, funding local programs, or simply bringing like-minded individuals together, Friends of NRA continues to be a leading force in growing and supporting shooting sports across the country.
