"Jim is one of the most organized chairmen I have worked with. He has excellent communication skills with his committee and myself. His community respects who he is and what he does. He is willing to try new things to maximize profits, such as $100 raffle tickets. In 2014, he was proud of the $51,000 net event. In 2023, he will have surpassed $138,000. He collaborates with local businesses to have game sponsors; for example, Dairy Queen purchases the prizes and works the game at the event. Others do the same as well. His committee underwrites the Veteran gun every year, and they are very proud of that. At the event, everything has a place and everyone has a duty, so setup goes very smoothly for a 400-person event. He consistently maintains a net-to-gross ratio above 50%.
Jim Kelley has been my Grant Chairman for the last nine years. He communicates with the delegates all year long and assists me to ensure everything runs smoothly. He gathers all the necessary forms from the delegates ahead of time and has them ready for me by the end of the meeting.
In 2023, Minnesota approved $5,000 for an annual scholarship. Jim is also the Scholarship Chairman and has formed a small scholarship board to oversee the program. We have had two separate Zoom meetings to ensure we are all on the same page.
He is a leader and someone I count on all year long. My job is much better knowing that Jim is a leader of the FNRA in Minnesota.
Jim attends at least four or five other events around Minnesota to show his support and also to learn from other groups. He brings ten to fifteen of his committee members to the annual Workshop/Grant Meeting every year. This is a huge part of why his committee is so successful."
