Delaware-Chesapeake Friends of NRA
Hosted First Annual Sporting Clay Benefit
The Delaware-Chesapeake Friends of NRA committee hosted the First Annual NSCA Registered Sporting Clay Benefit Event on Saturday, February 28, 2009. The Tournament was hosted at the Hopkins Shooting Preserve and Sporting Clays Range near Kennedyville, Md. The event was held to raise awareness and funds for the NRA Foundation, which supports and benefits youth educational programs and range improvement opportunities through grant awards.
Forty-three competitors braved the cold and windy conditions to participate in the event, while battling for cash prizes in class and options. One lucky winner was all smiles as she received a brand new Beretta Model 391 shotgun in the participant drawing, held at the end of the awards ceremony.
The Hopkins Family and their staff helped make the event a success with their ever-present brand of quality, friendliness and outstanding facility. Everyone enjoyed a spectacular lunch catered by Tony Sinn and his crew.
Present to help kick off the inaugural event was current NRA President John Sigler and his wife, Ingrid, who enjoyed the opportunity to participate. Regional NRA Field Rep. Kory Enck enjoyed blowing the dust from his barrels, as they had not seen competition for a while. Skip Klinger, Friends of NRA committee member from Palmyra, Pa. accompanied Kory to participate in the benefit. Also competing was John Thompson, President of the Delaware State Sportsmen's Association.
The contending shooters voiced their enthusiasm as they participated in the event. Delaware-Chesapeake Friends of NRA Committee Chairman, Mark Carlson, promised to make the shooting event a precursor to the Annual Friends of NRA Dinner, held each Spring in Dover. The Sporting Clays event now raises the number of chances to support of the Delaware-Chesapeake Friends of NRA throughout the year to three. It is with great purpose that the Friends committee will continue to garner support for the future of shooting sports and education.
This year's Delaware-Chesapeake Friends of NRA event will be held on April 3, 2009 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, Del. Tickets are still available. Contact Mark at (302) 674-5660 for more information.
